The Ensigns

My first GC song with a Star Trek theme! "The Ensigns", based off Verve Pipe's "The Freshmen", is told from the perspective of one of the many dead redshirts from TOS.

Lyrics:

When we were stationed on Enterprise
Kirk would transport down against Spock's advice
Now I'm pain stricken, wounded, falling down on the floor
phasered in the chest, that's my redshirted life, yeah

Kirk should be responsible
our fate is always the same
but he won't be held responsible
I didn't even have a first name

For the life of me, I cannot remember
a redshirt crewman to beam down, not to die upon the ground
For the life of me, I did not believe
When Bones cried out, "He's dead, Jim."
We were merely ensigns

my best friend was beamed down with the doctor and the captain
this girl sucked the salt from his body, it killed him
now he's pain stricken, wounded falling down to the floor
thinks about it now and how it really was a pointless death

don't try to wash your hands of all of this
you never thought about death until Genesis
and how we're pain stricken, wounded, falling down to the floor
did Spock have to die before you would accept the blame?
